♂♀: äußerlich nicht unterscheidbar

pH: 6-8 Härtebereich: mittel bis hart
Salzgehalt: < 15 ‰
Substrat: Sand oder feiner Kies, > 2 cm

Nahrung: Allesfresser.
Bei übermäßiger Fütterung wird sie schnell zur Plage durch ihre Massenvermehrung.
Anmerkung: Lebendgebährend. Die Art wurde bisher meistens in der Gattung Thiara Röding, 1798 geführt, zwischenzeitlich auch in Plotia Röding, 1798, Plotiopsis Brot, 1874 und Pseudoplotia Forcart, 1950. Sie wurde in die USA eingeschleppt.
